Safety Guidelines

What to Do

  • Stay calm and move slowly to avoid startling the distressed animal.
  • Observe from a safe distance of at least 20 feet to assess the situation.
  • Take sharp photos or video from afar to help rescue teams evaluate the injury.
  • Record exact GPS coordinates or note clear landmarks to help responders find the location.
  • Contact specialized wildlife rescue immediately for safe handling instructions.

What NOT to Do

  • Do not attempt to touch, pick up, or manually handle any wild animal.
  • Do not offer food or water, as this can cause further medical complications.
  • Do not use flash photography or bright lights which can increase animal stress.
  • Do not approach mothers with young, even if they appear injured, for your own safety.
  • Do not move the animal unless it is in immediate danger of being struck by a vehicle.
